Back to the Basics

Friday - July 9, 2010

It’s hard not to put the cart before the horse here in Jamaica. There are so many things that are trying to be accomplish before the cruise ships start showing up here in November. The pedestrinization of Water Square is a huge challenge and there are numerous buildings that need to be restored. But there are so many things that go into a historic district and what visitors expect to see. Basic sidewalk improvements, utility line clean up and drainage management are just a few of the infrastructural challenges that must be addressed. Sight lines and view corridors are vital to any district’s sense of place and how the visitor will experience a historic site. There are so many things to do and the clock is ticking.
