In many of our meetings there have been many discussions about Falmouth’s future transportation center and its location on the edge of town. One of the primary concerns is getting people from this transit hub into town for shopping and municipal services. A trolley or shuttle bus has been proposed, but they are thinking too small by limiting it to one short & straight route. Normally I am not a big fan of the whole trolley-bus thing and any of my planning buddies would be ripping on the idea. But I think it could work here and more importantly if its expanded to include more of the historic resources and pier development it could serve visitors from the cruse ships. More win-win opportunities that integrate community needs with a desire to cash in on cruse ship guests need to be developed. I really think there is an opportunity to develop both an attraction that gets tourists to the historic resources and generates much needed revenue for the project while providing transportation for the local community. May be those trolley-buses are not such a bad idea after all.
