With Janice gone, I’m relying on Zaneta to want to get out and explore and I’m in luck. We decided to head to Dunns Rivers Falls to climb them, a right of passage for any tourist who visits Jamaica. The river flows down these falls into cascading pools and eventually winds down into the ocean at one of the sandy beaches outside of Ochi. It is truly an amazing site, so amazing in fact that it is featured on the Jamaican $100 bill. The natural beauty is breath taking and the tropical setting in incredible. Being able to actually climb and swim the falls is such an amazing concept, to have such close access to such a natural wonder boggles the mind. It is definitely an eye opener for me about the debate on access to natural resources and what is the right balance between conservation and access. Climbing the falls is a great experience that you would not get anywhere else in the world, but it definitely leaves you wondering about the sustainability of such practices.
